Dire Straits - Mark Knopfler - Local Hero Other Songs Water of Love (live in Rockpalast - Cologne, Germany, February 16th 1979) |
"Going Home" theme from "Local Hero" Dire Straits 1983 Local Hero is a 1983 British comedy-drama film written and directed by Bill Forsyth and produced by David Puttnam (who also produced Chariots of Fire). The film is about an American oil company representative who is sent to the fictional village of Ferness on the west coast of Scotland to purchase the town and surrounding property for his company. Mark Knopfler, having achieved fame with Dire Straits (1978) and Bob Dylan's "Slow Train Coming" (1979) wrote the music. Mark's father was an architect and a chess player whose anti-fascist sympathies and Jewish parentage forced him to flee in 1939, from his native Hungary to Glasgow Scotland. Mark has described his father as a "Marxist agnostic". The music has become the official anthem of the Newcastle (on Tyne) Football Club, the area in England that Mark's mother comes from and where Mark grew up after he was 7. |
