Wishin' and Hopin' (1995) written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach c. Aug 1962. Recorded by Dionne Warwick, as the B-side of single released Feb 1963. Recorded by Dusty Springfield in UK in Jan 1964, and released in US to become a Top 10 hit in May 1964, also in Australia where it peaked at number two. In UK ironically it was a hit for the Merseybeats. My Best Friend's Wedding track (1997) was sung by Ani di Franco (1995). As she sings, one "bride" (played by Raci Alexander) and her three "bridesmaids" (Jennifer Garrett, Kelly Sheerin, Bree Turner) lip-synch to the easy-listening hit. Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin' Plannin' and dreamin' each night of his charms That won't get you into his arms So if you're lookin' to find love you can share All you gotta do is hold him, and kiss him and love him And show him that you care. Show him that you care just for him Do the things he likes to do Wear your hair just for him, 'cause You won't get him Thinkin' and a-prayin', wishin' and a-hopin' 'Cause wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin' Plannin' and dreamin' his kisses will start That won't get you into his heart So if you're thinkin' of how great true love is All you gotta do is hold him, and kiss him and squeeze him and love him Yeah, just do it And after you do, you will be his. |
