Preface: Matthew 5 - Blessed (Great) are the poor in spirit (crouched down, hungering, searching for righteousness) for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. A picture of Lazarus in Luke 16.
Neil Young - Keeps me searching for a Heart of Gold.
Available to every genuine searcher in this life or the next, because of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection.
But so much better if they can hear the true gospel today. End of Preface

Hi all

Ok, here's my two bob's worth from this morning's chat. Also looking at the total number who have passed on to eternity since Adam.

**In 2024, there are about 8 billion people alive. Click here for a sortable list by country. Click here for earlier figures in Worldometer's statistics.

**Statistics (and article) updated in 2024

The World Bank estimates 800 million are 65 years and older. The average birthrate is estimated at about 4 to 5 babies per second or 367,000 per day (134 million for the year), the average death rate is about 183,500 per day (67 million for the year) leading to a net yearly increase of about 67 million.

Average Ages at present when it comes to mortality:

Australia 83 years   Europe 77

North America 78 years   South America 73

China 78 years   Russia 70   Indonesia 68   India 67   Africa 62

Jesus said, "Remember the Queen of Sheba", and Solomon's writing proverbs about the Lord.

Because the most important thing in every individual's life, who is genuinely searching in their heart for God, is to meet up with Jesus, God's arm is not so short that he can't at the right point, like the Queen of Sheba, draw any one seeker thousands of kilometres to meet up with a pre-ordained "Paul" (a father figure), a missionary, a mentor, who will birth them in the gospel. Then they return with rejoicing . Ever since the Day of Pentecost, 2000 years ago.
How beautiful are the feet, etc, etc of these people.

And, also remember Jesus's words "If they — the current 'preachers' in each local place / local 'cosmos' (place of the human condition) — have called the householder (Jesus) Beelzebub — master of corruption, flies, and stuff — how much more (shall they call) them of his household". Yes, until the day Jesus returns.
That's the Principalities and Powers and delusions principle. But, "more there be with us (angels), than be with them".

In the past 70 years there has been an explosion in population growth, compared to the past 6000 years.

Epidemics & Infant Mortality
Previously growth had been slower due to issues like wars famines and diseases — click here for stats of the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918-1919 & prior to Covid, the last serious world wide epidemic. Also high infant mortality rates in Asia Middle East and Africa where 75% of the world's population live, click here re dramatic change in stats since 1950.

Famine Mortality
Note too in this report, during the 19th century about 100 million died from famine, i.e. starvation and hunger-induced diseases, about 5% of the mortality count. During the 20th century, the figure dropped slightly to about 90 million, less than 2% of the mortality count.
However the issue of hunger and under-nourishment, decreasing the lifespan as well as the quality of life, affects about 11% of the world's population, about 820 million people, with 22% of children younger than five 'stunted' – significantly shorter than the average for their age as a consequence of poor nutrition or repeated infection.

Ok, here are those numbers on mortality going back to Adam. Approximately

Adam- 1300BC300 million which includes the wipe-out of, say, 20 million descendants of Adam at the flood in 2300BC

Total, say, 17¾ billion humans have passed on to eternity since Adam.

Subject: Chatting to Warwick this morning, and thinking about Psalm 82, "inheriting the nations" :-)

Hi Chris, Dave, Warwick

Warwick, here's that page leaders.asp I've just spent many hours on, writing a history in summary of the major countries in the world, places like Italy, and Iran, etc in line with Psalm 82 a psalm of Asaph, written and sung in Jerusalem about 3,000 years ago,

displaying each country's major city and capital city, what year it was founded,
and each country's current leader, how old he/she is,
and a link to Wikipedia, to display his/her current domestic situation in terms of family. Keeps us prayerful.

  1. Today, the world-wide international trading language is English and its 26 letter alphabet. Not many speak it natively, but because of the US, the media, computers, everyone learns it or wants to learn it.
  2. 500 years ago, the international languages were French (26 letters) and Spanish (27 letters), based on Latin. In the east, Arabic (28 letters) and Turco-Persian (32 letters).

    Although Mandarin Chinese is natively spoken by over one billion people, it has been chiefly the language of the Emperor of China and his people, probably due to the uniqueness of its "picture based" script (used in about 10% of all its characters). Traditionally, Turco-Persian was used with foreigners.

    Seljuk Turks from the north-east invaded Persia in 1035 — capturing Baghdad in 1055 — massacring the local population in Jerusalem in 1077 — then the Crusades attacked from the north-west and then captured Jerusalem 1099-1187.
    Genghis Khan circa 1200 developed laws known as Yasa for the Mongolian and Turkic peoples who became his army, using an "Old Turkic" alphabet based on Aramaic. There are no surviving copies of these Yasa, however fragments have survived in the Perso-Arabic script, written by two Persian historians Juvaini and Rashid al-Din.
    His grandson destroyed Baghdad in 1258, and the Seljuks.

  3. 1500 years ago, the languages were Latin (23 letters) and Greek (24 letters). And Aramaic (22 letters), used in Persia before they were conquered by the Arabs (651AD).
  4. 2300 years ago, at the time of Alexander the Great, the 3 languages were Classical Greek and Phoenician in the west and Classical Aramaic in the east.
  5. 3000 years ago, at the time of Kings David and Solomon when that Psalm was composed, the 3 major languages appear to have been

    1. A "picture based" language of 600 characters called Akkadian
      It was used to write the Laws of Hammurabi around 1700BC, spoken by Sargon in 2300BC and is the oldest Semitic language for which records exist. Two dialects Assyrian and Babylonian. Superseded by Classical Aramaic.
    2. Egyptian hieroglyphics (1000 characters) were a language peculiar to Egypt. Evolved into Coptic, about 100AD.
    3. Hebrew-Phoenician (a 22 letter alphabet)
      Another script similar to them, Ugaritic, was employed in Syria and doesn't seem to have lasted later than 1200BC.

      The scriptures say that ships from Israel travelled to many far-flung ports. Then, as now, contracts and agreements must have involved a common tongue in order to trade and to work things out. Otherwise, as Paul says we are "barbarians" to one another when either one of us tries to communicate. As mentioned above, the Queen of the South (Sheba) came from the "extremities, the uttermost" parts of the south when she heard of Solomon's fame and wisdom. As we only read about it in Hebrew — the Greek alphabet wasn't in use, yet — then almost certainly their common language was Hebrew.

      Note, importantly, in 1000BC the worldwide population was much, much, smaller than now, perhaps 50 million people in total. That makes it pretty straightforward when employing one or two common languages.

      Early Biblical Hebrew developed from the language of Shem, the son of Noah, the ancestor of Abraham, after the earth "fractured" at the time of his descendant, Peleg.

A Plea for Justice

A Psalm of Asaph.

Psa 82:1 God stands in the congregation of the mighty;
He judges among the gods (the rulers of justice).

Psa 82:2 How long will you judge unjustly,
And show partiality to the wicked? Selah (Think about it)

Psa 82:3 Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Psa 82:4 Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.

Psa 82:5 They do not know, nor do they understand;
They walk about in darkness;
All the foundations of the earth are unstable.

Psa 82:6 I said, "You are gods (rulers),
And all of you are children of the Most High.

Psa 82:7 But you shall die like men (Adam),
And fall like one of the princes (Shahs)."

Psa 82:8 Arise, O God, judge the earth;
For You shall inherit all nations.

Blessings all, Steve
