Difficulties Logging On

If you receive the following error message when Logging on to a web page, including www.swcs.com.au

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

Check the following link to learn if it is the web site that is down, or if it is an error at your end:


replacing google.com by typing the domain name you are endeavouring to reach e.g. swcs.com.au

If the error is at your end, click on Start, Run, and type CMD to go to a command line prompt.

Type TRACERT and the site you are trying to access
e.g. TRACERT www.swcs.com.au

This program should trace a list of routers, showing you if one of them is blocking your path with a Request timed out message

If the error occurs before hop number 4 or 5, then it is probably a router issue involving your ISP.
If the error occurs before hop number 12, then it is probably ouside your control, as various ISP routers are having difficulties connecting.
If the time-out error occurs about hop number 12 or later, you may find your IP address has been blocked at the website end because of bad traffic that is endeavouring to overload the database, i.e. traffic with IP addresses similar to yours.
